Junior Hurlers:
Patrickswell won the City Junior A Hurling League Final after a gritty win over Ballybrown. Liam Fitzgerald and Josh Carey had Patrickswell 0-2 to 0-1 ahead in the 5th minute, but we failed to score for another fifteen minutes. As a result, Ballybrown led by 0-5 to 0-2 after 20 minutes. A Hugh Maher point was followed by another two points from Liam Fitzgerald and the deficit was trimmed to 0-7 to 0-5. Near the end of the first half, Jordan Higgins found himself in oceans of space and finished his goal with conviction. Patrickswell were ahead by 1-5 to 0-7. However Ballybrown responded immediately and plundered a goal and two points to lead at the interval by 1-9 to 1-5.
Patrickswell chipped away at Ballybrown’s lead and found themselves only 1-11 to 1-9 behind on 45 minutes (Jordan Higgins, Dayle McDonagh, Hugh Maher and Liam Fitzgerald). We began to turn the screw when Liam Fitzgerald’s trio of points restored the Patrickswell lead. Ballybrown replied with two points and held a slender 1-13 to 1-12 lead to set up a tense final five minutes. Thankfully Patrickswell found an extra gear and overwhelmed our neighbours with four consecutive points (Jordan Higgins and Liam Fitzgerald 0-3). The final score was 1-16 to 1-13.
