Athea GAA Club Notes:
Minor Ladies:
Minor ladies played their first round of the league, a home game v Old Mill last Sunday.
19 girls togged off for Athea in very competitive game from both sides with only a goal between them at half time. Both teams were very evenly matched with some fantastic football skills on display. Our girls put in a massive team effort and showed unbelievable heart, trailing 2 points with minutes left on the Clock. Grace Hunt got that all important score just as the final whistle was about to go. Final score Athea 4-6 old mill 3-7.
Next up is Monagea away on Sunday the 14th of March.
Mens:
There will be a medal presentation to the West Junior C league champions of 2025 next Monday night March 16th at Brown Joes Bar at 8.30pm. This will be followed by D.J. Excel and finger food.
They won the final after an epic game against near neighbours Glin in Glin last May after extra time. We defeated Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan in the semifinal also played in Glin.
We played 4 games to win the league and used 31 players, below is the list of those who played a part in this first success at this grade since 1994.

In our last Junior B league success in 1994 we defeated Fr Caseys with a team that included, John McAuliffe, Eddie Barrett, Philip Woulfe, Seamus Ahern and Tim Quaid.

The last draw took place the 9th of March. The lucky winner of €332 is Marie White Knockdown Congratulations. The next draw will take place on Monday the 23rd of March 2026
