County Junior ‘A’ Football League Round 1
St. Kierans 2.9 Ballybrown 2.5
The Junior footballers got their 2025 season underway on Saturday afternoon when they travelled to Clarina to take on Ballybrown in their first game in the Junior ‘A’ ranks. Fielding a very youthful side with two players playing their first game at adult level, Conor McMahon and Eoghan Sheahan we began the game brightly with Donie Nolan returning from injury and Jack O’ Sullivan setting the platform for victory in the middle of the field. We led 1.9 to 0.2 at the interval with Cathal McEnery and Sean Ryan impressing up front and causing several problems for the home side. Despite their large deficit Ballybrown didn’t lose heart and fought their way back into the game in the second period, outscoring us 2.3 to 1.0. At the final whistle there was a huge sense of satisfaction as we came away with the two points in our first game at this level. the manner of the performance was very pleasing in particular the first half when we put together some excellent passages of play with Oisin Ryan and Luke Corrigan up front causing several problems for the Ballybrown defence. Next up in round 2 we make the journey to Ballingarry on Tuesday night where we will undoubtedly face a big step up in competition.
