Athea GAA Club Notes:

Sympathy:
The club would like to express its sympathy to the Kinsella family and relations on the sad passing of Gerard at a young age. Gerard played football with Athea up to u21 level, he was midfield on the u21 team that contested the West limerick final in 1989. Gerard was an accomplished Hurler have learned the skills at secondary in Pallaskenery, he was the standout player when Athea fielded an u14 hurling team in the early 80s, winning a county u14c final in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick
May he rest in peace.

AGM:
The club held its AGM at the Con Colbert Hall on Sunday Night last which was well attended by members. The secretary Margaret o Connor gave a detailed presentation, including an impressive booklet with details of the clubs activities throughout the past year. A limited number of copies will be available to take away for free from Collins’ shop this week.
The Treasurer Mary Ellen Quille gave an excellent presentation of the financial transactions of the club during the year. All income from the club draw, limerick development draw, split the bucket, membership and sponsorship was detailed. Expenditure on everything from Tarmac on car park, line painting, electrical work, robotic lawnmower, field turf for goal mouths, Team expenses, footballs, hurleys, sliothers and solar panels were all explained.
Mary Ellen also gave details of our current position with our bank over draught and the loan amount outstanding to Athea Credit union, plus money due from Clár for our carpark grant.
The Chairman John Hunt in his address thanked his fellow officers in particular for their hard work during the year, and all those who helped out in the club during the year, especially the under age coaches who make a great contribution to the lives of the young boys and girls of Athea.

Membership is now open for 2026, with different options to choose from. inc players, non players(walking track), student over 18, youth u18 and nursery.

Every Step Counts – Get Ready for 2026
🥳 Every Step Counts is back! It’s time to reconnect with your club and community and feel the benefits of physical exercise. Get tracking for 5 weeks from Wednesday 7th January to Wednesday 11th February to help your club reach a combined target of 4,000km.
Any club that hits the 4,000km distance over 5 weeks will be entered into the draw to win a share. There’ll be 3 donations of *€2,500 towards club funding per province up for grabs.
The more participants we get, the quicker we will hit the target, so make sure that every step really does count!

Ladies:
Huge congratulations to Anna Murphy and the u13 Desmond League Team who won the Munster SFAI Inter League Cup yesterday, defeating Limerick County 5-3.
Junior Ladies training will resume this Thursday at 7pm at the field, we hope to see you all there. New players are always welcome. Details regarding underage training to follow.
